OPINION: Hollywood needs to stop misrepresenting neurodivergence

Hollywood has produced plenty of films about autism, from “Rain Man” to “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” but has historically relied on stereotypes and over simplification. It is well past time we moved on from such infantilized portrayals and accurately represented the broad diversity of the neurodivergent community. Because even if it seems like harmless fiction, such portrayals have a tangible impact on how the community is perceived.
