Norway Chess Women 2024 R8: Vaishali wins Armageddon against Anna, Wenjun leaps to the top
Anna Muzychuk (UKR) drew against Vaishali in the Classical game of Round 8 at Norway Chess Women 2024. Vaishali mentioned in the Confession booth that she went all out in Jobava London as she suffered two consecutive Classical losses before this. Vaishali won the back and forth Armageddon on time. The position on the board was equal in a double rook endgame. Reigning Women's World Champion, Wenjun Ju (CHN) scored three points as she defeated Pia Cramling (SWE) in the Classical. Wenjun is the new sole leader 14.5/24, closely followed by Anna 13/24 and then Vaishali 11.5/24. Tingjie Lei (CHN) scored her first Classical victory of the event against Koneru Humpy. She also moved her score to 11.5/24.
